The ancient Greeks knew both a plant very useful for poisoning their arrowheads and spears and that certain types of honey were extremely poisonous, my guess is honey found where oleander is common and blooming, as that plant is quite poisonous. I knew someone who, when told it was poison, tried a leaf (cautiously) and said, "If you're stupid enough to chew these leaves you deserve it, they taste terrible." The long, thin stalks are perfect for roasting wieners on though, and it's not uncommon for novice campers to make themselves really sick doing this.

There was an herb known to the Classic Romans that could be of interest: silphium. No one's sure what the plant really was, here's a Wikipedia article about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silphium
