A Drive Along the Cliffside V2
🕑 Added 2021-12-17 21:00:04 +0000 UTCThere’s a car driving along a long, flat freeway.
It’s boring.
It’s gray.
And it’s blocked off by great concrete walls on either side.
Traffic is in that sweet spot of just right,
Enough cars to know that one is not alone,
Not enough to really trap one in place.
There’s a boy sitting in the passenger seat,.
The boy is quiet,.
The boy is waiting, .
The boy is bracing.
There’s a woman in the driver seat.
The woman is quiet,.
The woman is boiling, .
The woman is ready.
Silence hangs tense like a funambulist’s rope
hanging over an abyss.
A shout and a slap cuts it,
and the funambulist falls.
Flailing and reaching,
tumbling and falling,
the funambulist panics,
And there’s a slap back.
The woman’s face is slack with shock.
The boy is face is numb with realization,
Hand still frozen in the strike position.
Then it’s war, one-sided war.
The woman shouts,
Lobbing accusations and anger, hitting painfully.
The boy laughs,
Accepting all the anger, dying on the inside.
The boy is still waiting.
The woman twists the wheel this way and that way,
jumping one, two, three lanes left to outrage,
then skipping three, two, one lanes right back to cold rage.
The road traveled now is a wild, angry ride to hell.
The boy smiles and relaxes in this deathride.
The boy is finally ready,
And the boy finally returns volley.
It’s not blow for blow though,
just one nuke thrown,
a little message sent,
just a softly spoken cold promise to accept the end.
The war goes hot to cold in an instant.
The car is pulling away from the walls now,
drifting back from drifting along the edges.
The echoes of violence are quieting now.
There’s a boy sitting in the passenger seat,
The boy is smiling,
The boy is dying,
The boy has voiced his desire to die at last.
There’s a woman in the driver seat.
The woman is scared,.
The woman is shocked,.
The woman is sorry at last.

AN: My English Professor REALLY fucking hated pronouns. He's a supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, but he just absolutely hates using pronouns and made us not use pronouns ever. It was helpful, I'll admit and I do use less of them, but fucking hell was it annoying. So Sorry, Prof. Still going to use my pronouns.
