It occurs to me that, for Young-Mi, a Korean man could come home from abroad and he had made a trade with an American similar to the one Stephanie made. But the American was killed in an accident so he has no way of getting his culture back. In desperation he offers the trade to Steph so she can go home. Of course, the culture of a New York businessman is a little different than what Steph originally had, and the trade parameters are a bit different, too, so Steph might have a bit of a personality shift, but at least she can go home.
