What should I do with this eMac?
🕑 Added 2025-12-12 08:47:22 +0000 UTCI recently acquired this eMac for cheap, and while it works, it's clearly in need of a thorough cleaning. But I figure if I'm going to take it all apart, I could also do some other enhancements too.
Should I try restoring it to "showroom condition"? Should I try overclocking it? Should I try replacing the internals with Apple Silicon or a Hackintosh (keeping the CRT of course)? Should I convert it to a VGA monitor, maybe with a switch so it can still be an eMac when I want it to be?
Let me know what you guys would like to see, and I'll do the most popular idea(s) in an upcoming video!

Install Linux on a different drive but make it boot to GNU Emacs so you can run Emacs on an eMac. https://www.howardism.org/Technical/Emacs/new-window-manager.html

I think the VGA switch would probably be the mod that has the most practical usecase- would be nice seeing it paired with a lighter OS to try restore it to a more useable showcase build

The VGA switch idea sounds like it would have entertaining results.

Showroom conditions would be nice but definitely a VGA switch. Helps get more use out of it.

Run Linux!! This is an incredible opportunity to show that even an eMac from 20 years ago running Linux runs smoother than your Windows gaming PC lol.
