Yes, that's true. There are many different ways of visualizing it creating new path ways of understanding the fretboard!

Lucas I found a discussion on how the strings are tuned in 4ths and the third string in 3rds helps to visualise the fretboard as well. This idea comes from the late Jazz educator Howard Morgen

Very good question! I thought about that a lot too. My first instrument was also Piano before i moved to the guitar. I totally agree on not thinking in boxes. This can be really limiting. I for myself try to avoid these days to compare the fret board with white and black keys of the piano and i try to think more in intervals. I am not sure if that way is better, but it releases me from stressing myself to think in a piano kinda mindset :) @lukas - There are a lot of autumn leaves next to your door :P

Hi Lucas, Thanks for posting new content! I have a related question regarding the fretboard visualization. I was a bit surprised that you visualized G major as C major with F#. I understand that's possible, but for example, for E major, one would have to see it like C major with F#, G#, C#, and D#, which is a lot of sharps to handle. Isn't it better to see E major as C major all shifted 4 frets higher? Moreover, the root location is preserved by the shifting. Thanks a lot once again! Bests, Rostislav
