- Dean Rewrite (Part 1)
So a big part of the past month and a bit has been revising the script. Namely the promised Dean rework to make him a bit less bland and less overtly horny as some people read him closer to a sex predator that was too clingy towards Dave. So in efforts to make him less problematic, I've been able to churn through the first chunk of his route to completely overhaul his characterization.
A few other things have come of this. Notably he spends more time with Sal, and the framing between him and Sal as friends is pushed a little more. That's going to be more of an intent moving forward into the next section of the rewrite too, which as the VN opens up more should be a bit easier to manage.
As it stands, the update covers everything available (at least insofar as any scene with Dean in it) up to Day 9. You'll notice some other critical path scenes have been altered just to be tidier too.
I do regret not getting more of it done this time around, but a lot of time was eaten up rereading old script and fixing formatting that was years old. That said, I have recently been getting a lot of good feedback in regards to other parts of the VN that might need tweaking, namely on Sal's route, but I don't think I'm going to be doing another full route rewrite; I do want to get more done of TCM at some point after all!
Tentatively there should be another chunk ready in January, so look forward to that.
In the meantime, I do have some more news that I'll write up a post about in the morning of some neat things coming soon. Or if not soon, some recent news that people may find exciting!

I actually found it interesting that Dean loved to dropped innuendo all the time, but was actually rather shy about actually doing anything. It displays that he's not shy about the fact that he's a sexual being, but also that he has a gentle and considerate nature. I think a lot of people in real life actually do behave that way, using jokes as a bit of an outlet to express their nature, while still being very considerate about things like consent. I think it's a good aspect to keep of him, but instead of having the jokes directed straight at Dave, have them be sexual jokes that are more broad and could be applied to more general situations. That would make him feel less predator-like while keeping his nature.

That's pretty awesome, both from the player of the novel and the creator of the novel. Hopefully what comes out of it is something even better than before.
