Thank you for doing Darko one of my favorite movies ever. The same director also did southland tales which is also interesting. Some other great movies for the future would be Vanilla sky, dark city, and session 9, among others

Really enjoyed this episode, always thought Donnie Darko was a strange one. I saw two independent psychological horror films recently which defiled me on a level I haven’t experienced before. I felt immediately suspicious of trauma based mind control/psychic elements of them. They both have a kind of ‘self immolation by technology’ direction which leaves you feeling numb. Both directors lure you into these scenarios and try to imprison you within the fictional realms. I’d like to hear your thoughts on them: 1. I saw the TV glow: goal of architect- induce depersonalisation & disassociation from reality, and atrophy of emotionality & deactivation of empathy through the schizoid archetype. Romanticises dread, depression, nihilism, and the character is released by embracing transhumanism through the television. The protagonist subsumes their unconscious identity & becomes transgender. 2. The Substance: goal of architect- 1) cycles of self-obsession & self-destruction, eventual glorification of annihilation and 2) induce desensitisation to porn, violence and fetishisation of bodily gore. Overwhelm and nauseate the audience.

Unrelated but thought you fellas might find this interesting if you haven't already listened to the Longlegs director commentary: 14 minutes in, FBI chiefs office. A picture of Bill Clinton is prominently displayed on the wall behind the desk. Several times throughout the movie of course. "Somebody said in the test audience, either this movie takes place in the 90's or somebody really likes Clinton. *laughs*. Originally, it was written as, I guess it turned out to be 1993. It was written as 1992, uhm, and I changed it to '93 when I realized that, uh, it would have to be george bush if it was 92. We'd have to be looking at fucking pictures of George Bush all the time so I just..nudged it..
