Rereading this, “I was made to be better!” is actually a very White Diamond line to say ain’t it? Reminds me of how Garnet describes the Diamond Authority when telling the fake story of Rose Quartz, and of course Jasper’s obsession with considering herself to be The Best comes with the same crazy internalized pressure that WD had. It’s interesting too because I’m sure Jasper trying to reconcile this belief system with her own Diamond getting shattered is sorta irrevocable, like having survivor’s guilt but not being able to even recognize or admit it, because of course you were meant to survive as The Best. And Pink Diamond should have too, right? If she was also The Best? …I’m even more worried now that the PD reveal is gonna go over with Jasper similarly to how it does in SU Future, but worse. 😭

I love your analysis! This is basically what I was going for. Steven may care for things as deeply as canon Steev, but he has no cushioning and that ruthlessness is absolutely there! Glad it came across. :)

Steven goin' for the THROAT. DAMN. He did. NOT inherit Rose's softness in this AU- which makes sense! There's the flashes of Greg, of course- but then, you see his mother, too. The moments where he's pragmatic. Calculating. Ruthless. He sees straight to the core of a person, their insecurities; and unlike Classic Steven, who tends to get through to people with just like. Straight-up unending kindness and patience, THIS version of Steven? He has ZERO qualms with calling it like he sees it. I do wonder how that differing approach will affect his relationships in the stories to come.. Also. You're really gonna show us two of the cutest beans ever, and then rip our hearts out, huh? Coolcoolcool. Just gonna go. Cry in a corner and wait for the next update. <3

Rereading, and I wonder if when White asked "do you understand what you did ?" she was referring to what is happening right now with Steven experiencing those memories. Did he fuse in a way with those shard's memories? I wonder if tthe order "come back from whence you came" could have had other consequences than what we may have thought in the first place

I mean Jasper became the ultimate Quartz by luck because Peridot did say that the Beta Kindergarten was a rush job which created the other Jaspers that Blue Diamond collected to preserve Pink Diamond's memory. White Steven just destroy Jasper's pride and her existence by saying she's not the ultimate on how she made herself the ultimate, it was just luck on how she became the ultimate

Mostly, I just picked things I liked. Boomy's nickname is because she's big into chemistry and likes to make things explode. C43 is a part of Nephrite's full number, but she has another nickname - Half - because of her undercut. Nephrites are typically have the hard cap or poofy hair but she's got half and half.

I really appreciate this comment. While it's true that, as you said, some parts of both Stevens are influenced by their original gems, that's still a far cry from how White Diamond herself would act. She certainty wouldn't take the time to listen to old gem's sob stories, nor to listen to and analyze Jasper the way Steven is. His methods are definitely meant to be a familiar echo... But his motivations are meant to be definitively his own.

I think viewing these scenes of Steven "acting like White" being different or separate is as regressive as the things White was saying to Pink!Steven in the show, comparing his experiences and emotions and motivations to his Mother. I think that just like Pink!Steven, White!Steven is influenced by his parts, but they do not make his whole. I love how refined and sharp you are with this unique characterization, thank you for CARING so much, it shows in your writing.

This is legit White Diamond 💎 I think this might be the beginning of Steven showing some of White's traits.
