This is still one of my favorite performances, which I have like... 30 of that I just can't decide between. The performance I want to talk about though is Idol and it's intro... Now, I could write a whole ass 200 page essay on the cultural importance of the 3 brief performances that 3J gave us, plus the celebration dance, hat dance, the whole damn thing really. However, I have to work and there's no way in hell I'd be able to type that out in like an hour without fucking it up and trying to stay focused. So, I'm going to give an abridged run down to give you some idea as to why this Idol performance will ALWAYS be superior to all other Idol performances, yeah I said it. Hobi performed Samgo-mu or the traditional Korean 3 drums dance. This is a very old traditional dance that's been embeded in Korean culture for a long time- more specifically, since the Goryeo Dynasty. It's a victory dance and is performed usually by women. It actually takes a lot of strength to perform as the women are hitting 3 drums that are placed in a way so they can be played while the women dance. So, Hobi starts us out with this Victory dance... then we move to Jimin- Jimin is performing a buchaechum... also called Traditional Korean Fan dance. Dancer Kim Baek-bong actually created this dance in 1954- shamanic ritual dances inspired this dance along with the Joseon court and folk dances. Much like Samgo-mu this dance is usually performed by women. Then there's Jungkook who is performing the Sandae noli which is the traditional Mask dance... now, some might try to correct me on that and say it's actually called Talchum, and they're not entirely wrong- Talchum is what it's called but only in North Korea... because the word Talchum does mean mask dance...many confuse this as what it's always called. But depending on certain areas, and between north and south Korea it's called something different- JK performed Sandae Noli, which is what Seoul area and Providences in that area call the mask dance. Yayu is the name for the Mask dance if you're in or from more southern coastal areas. Anyway.. the mask dance is a dramatic performance... really like a play as it tells the story of lower class people who rise up against the rich and powerful.... Kind of gives a different context taken that BTS was a lower class group who rose up against others. Kind of makes JK's little smirk as he removes the Yangban mask and then tosses it to say - to hell with the rich and powerful... like way more attractive in my opinion. Then we have the live traditional instruments the traditional lion dance, the hat dancers.... All these are usually performed during cultural fairs or celebrations in Korea, and on special events or visits from leaders of other countries to give them a dose of Korean culture. It is NOT typical for Idols, let alone Idol groups to pull out all the stops and incorporate these very traditional celebratory things into their own performances. It speaks volumes as to how much BTS love their country and are proud of where they come from. BTS are not the first to use at least 1 traditional Korean celebration performance/dance in their own performances but they are the first that I've ever heard of to use more than 4(like way more if I break it down bit by bit but I do not have the time lol) in one go. So... there's that. That's about as brief as I could make it. There's a lot more to this performance that I didn't cover though and a shout out to my Auntie and Uncle who, when I used to visit SK during the summer when I was younger- Thanks for making me learn some real shit... never thought I'd ever write about those dances, but here we are and it's thanks to BTS... well and my SK fam for dragging around their little foreigner niece lol. Anyway, this performance is so damn meaningful and brilliant and thank you guys for reacting to it and thanks for the drop 💜

There are some fancams whose showed the idols there watching BTS performance specially in "Idol" part at the end and the section where they were seating was literally shaking due of the movement of the dance on that moment, it was kind of funny because some were scared...it was like a hearthquacke 😂 but yes guys as usual BTS transforming each award show into their concert, another epic and legendary performance, thank you for the reaction....I can not wait for you to react to their MAMA 2018 in Hong Kong and ofc also their Artist of the Year speech 💜

You dunno how much meanings was behind that Idol performance, the whole history of Korea was in it... From the colors, the back-up dancers, the outfits, the instruments, the dances, the mythological animal... Everything.. Even Jimin get a special award for his dance. Hi guys! My favorite awards performances are MMA 2018, definitely MMA 2019 and MMA 2020. For MAMA performances, my favorites are 2018, specifically Airplane part 2. and 2020. I retract some of my statement--homegirl's attention spikes sometimes. but STILL! lol I'm not saying someone should be "reacting" every second of a video, because that isn't genuine. It's just very easy to see when someone is generally interested in something and when they're not. It's just agitating when reactors don't pay attention to the content they're reacting to. And I've complained enough, so I'll shut up now. 😅
