Dude, I could not agree more. I'm 53 so I know most people actively skateboarding right now look at me as an inconsequential dinosaur and that's fine. At the same time I know I have seen generations come and go in skateboarding. I've seen more people quit than I've seen stick with it forever so I don't really take any of it personally when people want to rage type at me. That said, you're right about skateboarding needing to find a way to have a dialogue within skateboarding that doesn't devolve into name calling and infantile keyboard warrior schtick. The problem is that this goes well beyond the niche market of skateboarding. It's a society-wide problem where people hop online and thoroughly fail to write cogent arguments. Not everyone is a good writer or debater and comments sections reflect this. Maybe we just need really talented and empathetic mods on here and elsewhere. Maybe we, as consumers, need to learn to ask for more in a respectful manner. Maybe we, as consumers, need to vote with our attention and dollars and find and nurture voices that respect nuance and detail and actual journalistic standards. Gifted Hater occasionally says stuff that makes me think, "ah, the blind spots of youth," but that doesn't mean I throw him out. He's doing great work and I respect his overall style. We don't all have to agree about everything all the time to still be in community.

Watching The Nine Club and GH drama feels like seeing friends fight—disappointing, but maybe all this stuff needs to happen before things get better. But with Nine Club back to private streams and GH usually doing the same, I think all that will happen is more of the same: avoidance and/or talking ABOUT people and not TO people. It's all unfortunate and could be avoided fairly easily. Like, "hey you have some opinions on this different from mine, come on my show. Let's try to listen to each other and not get too offended and see what we common ground we can make". From my perspective that seems entirely reasonable and would even make for great content, but for some reason it's too much to ask of anyone? It SOUNDS like EVERYONE wants to get back to "common sense", but instead of doing the work to make that a reality we tend to just silo off and make things worse. It's everyone's responsibility to fix, not something to just put the blame on someone else and wonder why they're not willing to take it on completely. Maybe skateboarding needs a mediator who can step in and make this happen. It's easier to be the critic than the listener but that goes both ways. I love all y'all (strictly parasocially and platonically, of course) and hope you can work it out; for all our sakes.

I’ve got to say, I’m pretty disappointed in Jenkem. For a while, I actually thought they were doing a solid job filling the void in skate journalism. You mention that The Nine Club panel isn’t cut out for hard-hitting journalism—I completely agree. But whether they like it or not, they’re the biggest skateboarding podcast out there. Once you reach a certain level of influence, your role goes beyond just making engaging content. You’re giving people a platform to share their opinions, and your podcast becomes the megaphone that amplifies them. That comes with a responsibility: at the very least, making sure the information being spread is factually accurate.

Bringing identity politics into any arena is meant to spark reaction/anger. The culture war is obviously made up, and weak minds like Roger have fallen victim to that. But at the same time, America is crumbling and we live in the most violent/corrupt country on Earth. At a certain point you have to take a stand politically and fight for some vision of the future. Thinking anything can exist outside of politics is just as dumb as anything Roger is saying. If these conversations don't start invading more places that are supposed to be apolitical. Then the billionaire class will continue to slaughter us and destroy the planet. We're going to have to do something eventually or Earth is toast.

Which is sad because he used to be my favorite person involved with the nine club by far. Roger is the last of the nine club crew that I ever expected to see a video about. It‘s crazy, we often want to know more about the skaters or other people in the industry but if you finally get to know more of them you realize that most of them are just so stupid and boring. I now believe that Roger is the one who wants to maintain the ‚everything skating is positive’ vibe of the nine club and not Chris. I do not think he is talking about you. He may not even think that you are „Part of the industry“ as his view is very conservative. And I also remember him saying he liked you so why shouldn‘t he still like you today? Because of Chris Cole and Tim Pool? Maybe, but your content was critical from the beginning, for example your Cariuma videos, and I could imagine he loves someone like Berra as well. But I could be wrong.

That's kinda what I thought. I get it, it wouldn't make much sense to come out and accuse Nyjah without much evidence but what I always found kinda weird is that eventhough YOU believe it happened, it didn't stop you from sometimes referring to him as king, goat, etc. Unless those were just jokes. Anyway, lets not dwell on this too much though, we're all human and have our inconsistencies.

So I think it was in the back of all of our heads but it didn’t feel like there was much to be done. If the story was coming out now and I’m at the age I am and I had the YouTube channel I would like to think I would try and do the right thing

The main difference is that nyjah has been established and these things happened before I ever started on YouTube, so it’s not something I feel like I ever had a say in. I am in the position I’m in now and things are unfolding in real time. I also have never seen the nyjah video, I believe it exists but I was able to make the Chris Cole video because of the evidence. That’s where it is for me at the moment
