Hope you had a happy holidays, missed your reactions! Answers to some of your questions and clarity(Apologies for it being lengthy, hopefully it helps understand the events better) 1. Time Period: This flashback of Emilia takes place 100ish years before present time. 2. Echidna's Promise: Echidna told Beatrice to wait in the forbidden library until "that person" arrives. Beatrice thought it was someone destined to arrive and take her out, thus spending 400 years waiting. Echidna however wanted to see who Beatrice would choose to be "that person", there was never a destined person to take her out. Beatrice needed to choose someone to be that person and she never did, causing her to suffer alone for 400 years. 3. Who is Pandora?: Re Zero uses the original nine deadly sins instead of the usual seven, Pandora who was introduced this episode was the Witch of Vanity and not a younger version of Echidna. She declared Betelgeuse as the Archbishop of Sloth and stated "under the name of the Witch of Vanity". Pandora is the 8th Witch we have met so far of the 9. 4. What Betelgeuse Used on Himself: Witch Factors are given by the church, which is why all the Sin Archbishops have a witch factor pertaining to a sin. The witch factor gives the user their ability, whether it be unseen hands for Sloth or the ability to eat memories for Gluttony. Geuse used the sloth witch factor on himself even though he wasn't chosen/compatible, thus facing repercussions. Someone like Regulus has the Greed Witch Factor, being compatible made him super strong compared to Betelgeuse. This sloth witch factor transferred to Subaru when Betelgeuse died, which is why Subaru can use the unseen hand a couple episodes ago. 5. Witches and Sin Archbishops have no connection. Witches existed 400 years ago and Archbishops are in present day. They just share the same witch factor, thus them being named after sins.
