I think it’s interesting to see some of the text message history between Isak and his father. Isak quickly scrolls through old messages just before he sends his dad the coming out text. You can see his dad has attempted to keep in regular contact with Isak - repeated invitations to dinner, reminder to wish his mother a happy birthday, offer to drive Isak to visit his mother, unconditional deposits into Isak’s bank account any time Isak asks (demands) more money. Although he may not been a perfect father and husband, it’s clear he cares about Isak and won’t give up on his relationship with him, no matter how much Isak pushes him away. It’s a good reminder that the narrator isn’t always reliable and there’s always more to people and relationships than we can see on the surface.
