ohtani is very much the michael jordan of japan. my friends and i have never cared for baseball but all of us randomly started caring about him just by virtue of all of us being japanese. it was like some kind of evil asian software update took us over and made us really really care about the dodgers.

As a child of divorce, jokes about divorced parents are nothing compared to joking about a dead parent. It’s not fun having divorced parents but you still have both your parents.. I wouldn’t have taken any offense to a divorced parents joke. The friend went too far and I would definitely replay that convo in my head everyday out of embarrassment 😭

5:15 - The shit some people will say about your dead parent is honestly astounding. I’ve received nasty comments from people who I thought were very close and understood my boundaries about my grief and somehow they not only overstepped that boundary, they leaped across it just a little over a month after my mom passed. I honestly hope they go to bed at night thinking about how humiliating it was for them to be that guy, the one attached to the horrible story I often recite. It’s just embarrassing to think about being in their shoes.
