in canon, it actually made sense, more sense than in any fanfiction, because the harming of another person, no matter their gult was an harming of your very soul, that is why Dumbledore preached this, but fanon always disregard this fact

Of course James and Lily listened to him. They are followers after all, were foolish and naive enough to listen to him in Harry's time, stands to reason they would do the same again. And what is wrong with the tactics Harry is employing old man? Absolutely nothing!! Harry lost everything and everyone in his time because you lacked the courage to do all that was necessary to stop Tom during his initial rise you old blind fool!!
