If it would have been me? I'd have let the romans attack the walls, and trap the tunnels leading into Rome. Leaving 4000 men in them and keeping the light calvary hidden a few miles away, having them advance only after the battle had started. Once the romans committed, id have the light calvary hit them in the rear. That night, have the men in the tunnels launch a night raid into the roman camp. Sure,it might not work. But it makes more sense then charging manhood first into a well prepared killing field.

unchecked raiding and reeving Reeving should be reaving. To raid. A Reeve is a lord's representative. Although reaving and raiding are the same so this is a redundant sentence. The difference is reaving is raiding from waterways as the Danes did.

Trevor Fuhlman

When Hoffer decided to stay rather than make it a RAID he turned certain victory into certain defeat. That is certainly going to be a historical lesson on the dangers of greed in their world.

He's fucked but either way his name is going in the history books.

Feels bad for Hoffer... but it's best to cut losses now. Hjalmar's salvaging what he can for his own lord's plans. Ultimately, he's choosing to follow the orders he originally received. It's up to Sieg to make it up to Hoffer, more or less. On the other hand, this will leave a bitter pill for the Romans. They didnt get either the hostages nor the treasures. Rome is still defiled. And the man who "led" the sack of Rome is still free. Hopefully Hoffer escapes as well, and the raid's architect also remains free. Long term... maybe Hoffer becomes another subordinate King of Sieg. Or maybe not.
