I think that's why the singing is heart warming instead of cringey, because Michael's reaction is so heartfelt. And it's even better knowing it's Steve's real reaction too.

I think a part of it too was that this came out in 2010 when Will had been pumping out all his hits year after year for quite awhile and a lot of people were burnt out on him by that point. I'm not in that camp but I definitely saw it a lot. You're right though that nobody could replace Michael regardless.

watching this back i don't mind deangelo but i think anyone set up as michaels "replacement" would have been doomed to not be an audience favorite. watching back i don't mind him so much but when i first watched i hated the man lol
