Karen was a rebound for Jim and she also came on to him first. Jim never expected to go back to Scranton again so he went with it to try and move on like people do, but there was never the same chemistry there that he had with Pam. It would be impossible for Jim to not be mixed up the way that he is going right back to the same job with a woman he clearly has a strong connection with and is now actually single.

also interesting take on how pam said "now you're with somebody else" i never saw that as anything more than her getting too caught up in addressing only jim but you mentioning how that someone is sitting right there and has a name...it really reminded me of something. as we see in the show thus far, there's moments where pam has this kind of....extended patience and understanding towards michael and there's moments where they can kind of be compared to being different sides of a same coin at times. while she had no ill intent, much like michael, she got too caught up and didn't think about how her words might affect others (karen, specifically in this instance). it doens't make her a bad person. i don't even think what she said was wrong. in fact, i am so proud of her for finally having the courage to share her heart like that. but i do think if she'd paused a bit and thought it through a bit more, she could have said some of that without necessarily hurting karen or at least said as much in a gentler way. but again, she was caught up in the adrenaline of it all and i really don't blame her for her honestly and i think what she did was awesome. i just think if she paused a bit, her words could have come out a bit more carefully.
