She was 17 at the time of the filming. I hadn't seen this till watching it along with you and the recommendations that it had received by so many just seem a bit unwarranted to me. For "listless, life is odd" movies I prefer Accidental Tourist and for "that's a big age gap" movies I prefer Harold and Maude which is truly a great classic.

I just looked it up. Scarlett was 17 at the time of filming. Some were worried she wouldn't be able to convincingly portray a twenty-something, but she did very well obviously.
