You have no idea how many hours I spent watching and re-watching these episodes when I was writing them up for the K wiki. Trying to make sense of the inconsistent rules, number of contestants, and the disappearing characters between rounds was fun. My conclusion was that there were pre-preliminary rounds per-galaxy that knocked it down from 130 or so fighters to the final 16. That's the only way to explain the group pep-talk scenes with the "coaches" and to understand the announcer's board. And then somehow two of the contestants that won their matches were disqualified and replaced by others. And one fighter has a near twin brother. And never mind, you cannot make it all make sense....

This is my favourite filler arc from my childhood I loved the fighting, I loved Greek mythology(Thank you Rick Riordan) so the concept of Olibu(Who as a child I instantly clocked as a stand-in for Heracles without any expository line implying that) was really fun for me seeing heroes from stories I read in my favourite anime. Another thing that I made up in my head as a child was the Gold Aura black haired Goku being the super saiyan form from the Slug movie as I had recently watched that movie after the Cell arc so it just made sense as something Goku could do if he didn't need the full super saiyan to a child I guess. Now it just looks like a reskin super saiyan with the black hair. I'm loving these anime reviews, they bring back a lot of memories of my childhood starting dragon ball for the first time. I can't wait to see your next installments of DBD in the Boo arc keep up the great work.

Wow! So these episodes came out before Vegeta’s sacrifice in the Boo Arc, and Toryama (and Toei) still tried to pretend that Goku keeping his body was unique, when half his enemies kept their bodies in Hell (in a filler arc, mind you, but still).
