A light novel is a type of popular literature novel native to Japan, usually classified as young adult fiction targeting teens to twenties. The definition is very vague, and wide ranging. The term "light novel" is a wasei-eigo, or a Japanese term formed from words in the English language. (From Wikipedia)

Can someone explain to me what a light novel is?

I really enjoyed this personally. So few people appreciate that adaptation is an art and you can't just take the source material and use that as your script. Plus Spice & Wolf is quality. I hope it convinces some fans of the anime to check the light novels out.
