“That’s how it was, Priscilla. When a state of emergency suddenly went into effect in Pangaea, I was trying every possible way to figure out what was going on.”
Jeanne tried to keep her composure but nodded with a serious expression.
Priscilla, who had been heading to Bahad with Eugene, had parted ways with him along the way. After discovering the dimensional rift and realizing the gravity of the situation, the two decided they needed to quickly inform not just Charlotte and the Grand Duchess, but also their comrades in Pangaea. So Eugene continued south to Bahad, while Priscilla returned to Pangaea to report to Jeanne.
“They probably wouldn’t tell even the nobles unless they had to. They themselves probably don’t fully understand the situation yet. If word gets out and spreads incorrectly, it could cause widespread panic.”
Priscilla gave Jeanne a more detailed explanation.
A few days earlier, a state of emergency had also been declared in Pangaea. Jeanne had first tried to get information through the mercenary guild via Thomas, avoiding using the power of the Grand Duke’s house if possible. But even the mercenary guild, which should have some cooperation with the Imperial Knights, was clueless. When she finally tried to use the Grand Duke’s connections, everyone-Antoine, Elizabeth, Charlotte, and the Grand Duchess-was out in the field, so it was no use.
“The Imperial Knights are most concerned about whether this will be a long-term situation or not. I don’t think it’ll end quickly. Since it’s still early, it’s best to focus on securing food and building up defenses.”
“We’ve already been focusing on filling the food stores for autumn, Priscilla. For now, we’ll have to prioritize monitoring the situation over quest exploration.”
Priscilla used her knowledge to advise on the Red Fox Mercenary Band’s strategy for the time being.
For most mercenaries, social chaos can be an opportunity: the empire will need more fighters and will offer rewards. But since the Red Fox Band now includes Yongmyeong Village, guerrilla-style chaos is more of a liability.
“Thanks to the nuns’ efforts, we were able to break the momentum of the monsters that were sweeping through the village. Thank you so much, Bishop-Nun Charlotte.”
Memphis, the commander of Bahad’s Special Defense Force, bowed his head in gratitude to Bishop-Nun Charlotte as he explained the situation.
A few days earlier, monsters had suddenly erupted all over Bahad. The numbers alone were overwhelming, but the surprise, simultaneous outbreaks meant villages were quickly overrun. The local special defense forces could do little more than evacuate people. However, thanks to the presence of Holy See nuns with extraordinary abilities (who had come to help with the plague), they were able to establish a defensive line.
“Looking at the map, though, I don’t think we’re in a position to relax just yet, Commander Memphis.”
Despite their achievements, Charlotte calmly pointed out the map on the operations desk.
“If this area remains under monster control, the route for reinforcements led by Grand Duchess Marianne, who left to check on disease outbreaks elsewhere, will be cut off.”
Charlotte pointed to the mountain road east of Bahad.
The large-scale monster outbreak happened after Grand Duchess Marianne left Bahad to check on disease elsewhere. Charlotte and the Grand Duchess had been sharing updates via carrier pigeon. Given Bahad’s isolation, Marianne planned to gather reinforcements or request imperial help before returning. As time passed, Bahad’s isolation worsened, and if Marianne tried to return with reinforcements, the monster-infested mountain road would likely cause heavy casualties.
“But as you know, Bishop-Nun Charlotte, our forces here are barely enough to defend, let alone go on the offensive to retake the high ground...”
Memphis was skeptical; attacking is always harder than defending, especially against monsters.
“That’s true...”
Charlotte, as a senior nun, had received tactical training and understood this well. She looked troubled.
“In that case, I’ll form a special detachment with the senior and high priestess nuns to attack. It’ll take more time, but we need to clear a path for the reinforcements.”
Charlotte decided to form a strike team. With the defense line established, the abilities of the senior nuns weren’t as critical for holding the line, but breaking the isolation was more urgent.
“Victory to the Lord! The Lord will protect us!”
With that, Charlotte and nine senior nuns returned to the battlefield. Monsters had made their lair on the mountain road leading out of the village. Charlotte raised her holy mace and invoked the Radiant Goddess.
“-Keeeek!!” “-Kieeek!” “-Kuwaaa!!”
-Thudthudthudthudthud!!-
The monsters, startled by the nuns’ holy power, charged. There were all kinds of monsters mixed together, not just a single type.
“Return to the abyss, you wicked monsters! This is sacred ground chosen by the Lord!”
“-Thud! Thud! Thud!!”
Charlotte’s holy mace, brimming with divine power, swung down. Since there was no one else to see her, she even hiked up her skirt for better mobility and slaughtered the monsters.
‘Blood! Red blood! The monsters’ red blood!’
As the monsters were smashed and torn apart, their dark red blood splattered all over Charlotte. Thanks to her holy power, none stuck to her, but the carnage was shocking.
A strange smile spread across Charlotte’s lips again.
“Thank you for your hard work, Bishop-Nun Charlotte. But are you all right? Fighting so many battles in a row like this... I worry about your condition.”
The day’s battle ended-but only for now. It would take several more days of fighting to clear the mountain road. Sister Carmen, Charlotte’s secretary and the one overseeing the junior nuns, voiced her concern.
Repentance prayer isn’t just about power; it also requires experience. Charlotte was only 24 and had been a bishop-nun for just half a year. Despite her lack of experience, she kept unleashing massive amounts of divine power in battle.
“I don’t think this is a time to take the safe route, Sister Carmen. I believe the Lord is using this to strengthen my faith. I must overcome it. I chose the path of the priestess to spread the Lord’s grace and bring happiness to the people of the continent.”
Charlotte smiled gently, though she looked exhausted. But these battles were directly tied to her mother Marianne’s safety, so she had no intention of slowing down.
And the price of that determination-
“Haaahhhhh!!!!”
-was extreme.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Charlotte cried out in the prayer room, pounding the floor.
“It’s so hard to suppress this desire to kill, Lord...!!! Haaahhhhh!”
She struggled to suppress her murderous urges. The smile that appeared when she was killing monsters, and again when she recalled those memories, was the result of her indulging in the catharsis of violence.
‘I can’t believe there’s such savagery and murderousness inside me...! I can’t accept it...’
Wracked with guilt, Charlotte thrashed about. Prolonged trance from surging divine power left her vulnerable to desire, and what surfaced was a hunger for blood and violence.
‘No... It’s not just violence... I know it’s not just a primal craving for blood and flesh... That’s why I’m struggling so much to accept it...’
Staring blankly at the floor, Charlotte’s eyes lost focus.
“Hnnngh...!”
Ssshhh...!
Her right hand drifted to her body.
“Haaah!”
A moan escaped. Her hand had gone to her pussy.
“Hnnngh...! Haaah! Hnnngh...!”
Squish! Squish! Squish! Squish!
With a face twisted in pleasure and guilt, Charlotte began to stimulate her virgin pussy.
“Hiii...! So good...! It feels so good...! Haaa...!”
The catharsis was so intense, she was nearly in tears.
“Haa...! Haa...! Haaa...! Hnnngh...!”
Her lips trembled as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Grit!
Finally, as if making up her mind, Charlotte bit her lip, and then-
“Yu, Eugene...!!! Hnnngh!”
She moaned the name of her beloved younger brother, Eugene Schneider.
