There really is a bot problem online, and it's everywhere - from fake reviews on products online, to political bots, to dating app bots, social media bots and more. We take a look at this and put on our conspiracy and celebrity hat for certain sections:

There was some interesting discussion recently regarding Selena Gomez's heightened online popularity (larger following than Taylor, BeyoncƩ, Kardashians, Ariana etc) and how it doesn't seem to translate into real life, and a theory thrown around was that it was largely bots who were essentially just inflating the appearance of her popularity and it wasn't 100% authentic!

Covid is a horrible virus but i firmly believe some countries/regions implemented additional unnecessary measures because the people in charge thought it was the popular thing to do BECAUSE OF SOCIAL MEDIA BOTS. In reality, people were thinking the measures werent working and were pointless

ok also has anyone else noticed a recent uptick in twitter accounts pushing a āweāre all doomed/going to be disabled eventually bc of covidā message? i definitely want to be sensitive but seeing this stuff on twitter feelsā¦off to me in my gut. idk if those are bots or just my algorithm.

Social media in general has a bad influence on my mental state, but I find it gets drastically worse after I read the comment section of anything. It creates the illusion that people are constantly fighting, I find myself getting fired up reading comments that are probably bots. I loved the internet during my Club Penguin era too, and now it just feels like chaos
