It’s the tone. I would guess, it’s a bit ( very slightly) pitch down to make the vocal older.

I don't think there were vocal effects after the intro. I thought some of the dialogue heavy stuff could've been spoken more softly or whispered though. Maybe it was that? Or generally the tone, or the story?
