Shoe, there's a possible positive effect: Training. People who use the app to train their interpersonal skills could have a failure-safe environment to develop and learn social skills. In an environment where we socialize so little, this experience may be of great help. I hope that the interactions with these AI personas can even create and amplify the need for a real relationship, as they will never have a full life to share with you, and I'll never take part in your life.

I work around a lot of AI but none of it is very interesting. These AI systems do a good job of finding answers to complex questions concerning everything from cybersecurity to FLSA law and synthesis a lot of data with increasingly few errors. But this is the first time I have actually seen an AI designed for whatever that exchange was about, and it really seems, well, creepy but more realistic than I expected. Yeah, not going to replace women/men/anything else in the non-virtual world. Perhaps this is how Skynet or the Solid State Entity finally gets control?
