We are legion - Ashlock

GreatCabbage

I love this story so much, but the lack of forethought, inability to learn from mistakes, and ineffectiveness of anyone who isn’t Stella or Ashlock in a last hurrah is bogging it down

SteveS

This was fun, thank you!

welp

The rewrite helped a lot, I do hope that soon we'll see more focus on Diana and Stella, and some of the other characters that used to play a large part but have seemed to stagnate. Hope aside though I'm enjoying the story and can't wait to see how this ends.

David W. Baijense

I just read the re-write, I find it ok, but I do wish Larry had more impact here.

XKARNATION

Sorry to disapoint

undeadgamer

Can’t wait for the next chapter (wonder how a monarch realm compares to millions of trees :)

BrotherJohn

Yeah but some of the issues are a common theme. If it was isolated incidents it wouldn’t matter. But to me it seems like no one’s development actually matters. Apart from Stella. Stella is the only one in the story whose progress actually has an effect on the story.

Lucio Hinojosa III

I think everyone needs to just let the writer write. It's only frustrating to read cause we're looking at each chapter invidivually, so it seems senseless until the next chapter comes out and resolves it. People who complain that the powerful member of the sects are weak and useless, we're in a new ballgame where Nascent realm is the norm and high tier Monarch realm is now the opponents. Ash's opponents have always been so much stronger, older, and wiser that his initial plans usually fail, but he uses his resources and wits to come out on top.

BrotherJohn

Everyone complaining about Larry being useless but it’s really everyone. Literally no one’s development seems to every matter in the story. This is the third battle in a row where Elysia and Magnus, who are the two most powerful cultivators in the sect, do LITERALLY NOTHING. They showed up just to immediately turn to stone, AGAIN. And Larry being a monarch realm being seems to have ZERO effect on the story. It’s like every single other cultivator or monster who is a monarch realm is a God but Larry is somehow still a pet. It’s hard to even consider him a powerhouse honestly. He’s a whole realm above Astralis yet he had no effect at all on the meeting between the sect and him. Ashlock says that the entire plan revolves around Veylorak. YOU specifically bring up Veylorak multiple times, like Chekhov’s smoking gun, bringing up how much of a powerhouse he is. Then LITERALLY IN THE OPENING PARAGRAPH OF THE FIGHT HE GETS TAKEN OUT. What was the point of having Veylorak being a point of focus and having Ashlock explicitly say his plan revolved around turning him into an ent? And then Ashlock. Why would he ever think going up against a monarch realm, and ten other near monarch realm beings would be this easy? He doesn’t upgrade his mental defences or fruits. He doesn’t have any plan other than using Veylorak, which you made pointless by having him immediately taken out of the fight. His cultivation has stagnated for like two books. And yes I know that he’s dealing with the beast tide but you’re the author. Work around that. It’s not subverting expectations, it’s just bad writing. Literally nothing matters in this story. Ashlock’s cultivation, Elysia and Magnus becoming Nascent Soul Realm, Larry being a monarch Realm, Nox being given a mythical body, turning Erebus and Akasha into Nascent realm trees, Diana finding an ancestor and learning the secrets of her bloodline.. all of it seems to have zero effect on the story which makes it so frustrating.

TreeReader

The rewrite is better lol but wondering why he didn't upgrade his mind fortress before going to the battle i thought he had the credits

Edgar Martinez

did anyone see the chinese drone show with the dragon and the fireworks falling down around it? that reminded me of Astralis pulling down the stars to throw them at people…. iconic

Manlor

I too feel a level of frustration with this chapter. But... Ashlock and his children are kind of like a hive mind, right? I don't think the Moth is ready to be attacked by millions of minds. That payoff next chapter could be excellent! 👌

Scholar of Endless Knowledge

Not a big fan of the copy paste situations. Especially since it JUST happened. A very anticipated chapter completely ruined because of the reused plot and Larry apparently being a paper weight!

Brian Block

He doesn't want to kill Zephyrine, so that invalidates your first idea. Also, he did not so much underestimate Ig'Zal, as not have an understanding of what a psychic qi/domain monster could do (directly stated in the planning of the last two chapters). The fact that Ig'Zal can do it with Monarch power backing him only makes it worse. He didn't know Ig'Zal could disappear into their mind physically, as he did. He didn't know Astralis' mind was broken specifically for Ig'Zal to use him when he foolishly attacked (Ig didn't know Ash existed until this fight). This is far less of an underestimation as he has done in the past, far more a lack of knowledge to even be able to plan correctly. He seems to be understanding each change and trying to react appropriately, unlike in the past where he would panic/have no plan/fall back on hoping to overpower them (and he or the sect suffering because of it).

Daniel is ŁØNE

One if he could take temp control why didn't he just do that and have all the overlords attack her body during that period, i doubt such an injured zephyrine would be able to fight back after enduring their combine might without defenses. Two, there is no bloody way we are really having another situation where Ash underestimates superior level beings for the umptieth time, at some point a tree has to learn, situations like this are realy frustrating to read cause it feels like there is no character growth.

Gonvas

Each tree has its own mind/ego. I guess it depends on how this mental atk works and if Ashlock can rely on offspring to help.

Sargon Yami

Fruit the pill is weaker. But i doubt it would have done anything for him. His mind is fractured. making the walls stronger does nothing if the gate is open. His soul regen fruit could have helped with that. And why does everyone constantly forget the stronger version that even protects the soul?

Sargon Yami

I disagree with his battle strategy of ash. i wrote a comment on how i would have gone about it. But To be fair i doubt he has enough SC for either skill. He needs between 2 and 5 k for the upgrade.

Moon Winchester

This chapter was frustrating to read. It showed zero growth from Ashlock throughout this entire story and I think it was a retarded display in general. He didn’t use any of his sacrificial credits to upgrade mental fortress or abyssal whisperers. He showed absolutely zero for site and zero planning. It was just like a child running into battle, hoping it all goes great. In my opinion, this chapter completely invalidated a lot of previous chapters. I didn’t like it at all and it is deeply annoyed me.

Moon Winchester

I thought Astralis also ate a mental fortress pill

Sargon Yami

not the way i would have gone about it. i would have moros drop out of the aether near the primal overlords and attacked those with the maw and larry (spiritual pressure i somewhat inconsistent) as well as Astralis in order to force the moth to intervene or lose his entire army and dependent on its reaction ash would have several powerful ents and anough SC for the needed skill upgrades or Zeph could get free and take care of the moth itself. to attack the moth and Zeph thereby potentially not only messing with the mind manipulation but also the defense of zeph, instead of playing into his strengths wasn't sun tzu approved. i guess Ashlock can try to enter Zephs mind and remind her of her pride in order to get the Crestfallen Bloodline to intervene?

Ethan Barrow

TFTC!! Stupid freaking mental bs, die bug!

Doc

Right it's getting a bit ridiculous

RedFaux

To be honest, this is just frustrating to read. Does he ever learn, at all?

Sargon Yami

Especially because kaida appears to just be a better summon. At B grade he was stronger than larry at A. And now at A grade he is as strong as S grade larry was.

ghostpeppers

So are we just gonna do another Ash underestimates a realm above him AGAIN?

Jetset24

Again, Larry feels pretty useless here. He is a monarch realm monster, why is he so passive ? Is his sole purpose to stop others from dying ? How come the ennemies do not even acknowledge his presence ? I know I'm annoying with this, but Larry seriously needs to have more weight.

Immortalloon

I think I is supposed to be ig'zal. "I have to thank you," Zephyrine said, unnaturally smiling at them, "for weakening her enough that I could infiltrate her dream realm."

XKARNATION

good point, added in a line

Sargon Yami

But thanks for the chapter

Sargon Yami

This feels plotholeish. If the moth can control her that way, why not do so from the start and get the primal overlords to kill her during his control time? Yeah the attacks weakend her but he has 10 being stronger than ash to do the same thing. Also why no soul healing, soul or mind fortress fruits for astralis and co?

Steven Frey

Why didn't ash hand out mind fortress fruits before the battle?

VolfKami

Aren't all the tree's minds linked? Is he about to try to brainwashing one and have to take on the whole forest?

Phoenixdrop

He needs to upgrade whispers

DeadHydromancer
