Finally, MPM :) Scraping some snow!

Heyya guys!I finally got both Houdini20.5 & Redshift builds for Metal working and it means we have a lot of new things to check out! This setup is a beginner friendly tutorial about MPM, just scraping (pun intended) the surface so in future tutorials I won't be going back to the basics but come up with more advanced and commercially-oriented examples.Aaaanyhow, as always, this tutorial is not only about setting up a variable strength snow, but...

Grains & Pyro Fun :)

Learn → Create → InspireThats what I do for almost 3 years and I am forever grateful to you guys who decided to support me on this journey. Todays tutorial is a fun, beginner friendly project that is built around pyro spread and grains, but of course I've added a few tips & tricks for more experienced users.Enjoy!

Abstract Path Deform

Hey guys!In todays tutorial we make a classic motion design effect – deform along the path. Since the setup is pretty basic and I want my tutorials to be useful also for more experienced Houdini users, I made a few extra arguments that we use in rendering, so for anyone interested in this abstract glass look – i got you :)Enjoy!

Image To Unicode Processing

Heeyyya guys!Starting this year with something fresh and different from what we usually do in Houdini. This time we will build a procedural setup that processes an image to unicode symbols, and does that dynamically, so noise-driven resolution of grids (by the way, you can do as much of them as you'd like), will dynamically introduce more or less detail to our image. Also, this takes seconds to render haha.P.S. Wrangle code in description of ...

Christmas Tree Spawner

Heyya guys!Wrapping up this amazing year with a fun little setup that packs both beginner-friendly vellum sim, a bit more advanced hair advect and some really tricky retime-for-loop setup, so everyone of you finds something useful!Have fun!

RBD Christmas Tree

Heyya guys! Christmas is just around the corner so why not do something fun?In todays tutorial we will explore dynamic RBD constraints that will allow us to shoot these colorful balls out from the boxes to their designated points on our abstract Christmas tree.Beginner friendly setup, but packed with some lesser known tricks that will come handy even if you already spent some time in Houdini!Enjoy!

Lamps | part 2

And here we have the second part in which we will add various animations and simulations to our lamps, set up redshift and render it out (both multipass exr and single pass tiff) and compose them in After Effects :)Enjoy!

Lamps | part 1

Heyya guys! This time I wanted to share with you something a bit different. You know I have a ton of tutorials about various simulations done in Houdini, but I have just a few tuts about more complex scenes that can be created in Houdini. And "complex" doesn't mean VEX or some advanced rbd or flip stuff. In this tutorial we are going to create an abstract setting with these 7 lamps from scratch and my main goal was to show you as many ...

Soon :)

32 bit workflow is pure joy. Just recorded 1st part. Definitely will be 2 part tut as just the modelling, texturing and lights took 3 hours, hopefully will edit to just one. Theres animation too haha

Vellum Frame Swirl

Heyya guys!Today we are creating the effect I've been seeing a lot in all sorts of CGI commercials, so I thought its good to learn how it's done. And here we have this mesmerising vellum swirl and bend around a frame (practically any frame works here, so get creative :)) and I thought placing an iPad really fits the vibe as the semi-transparent vellum emphasises how light the iPad is. Link to the model is in the description of the video!...

Vellum Softbody Restblend

Heyya guys!In todays tutorial we will explore vellum restblend! We did an RBD Spherify Morph some time ago, but wouldn't it be cool to see how the shapes actually unfold? Thats what we are doing today! This one is a beginner friendly tutorial where I go and explain each and every step in detail, whether it be sim or material, so if you are new to Houdini, this tutorial is the right one to start with :)Enjoy!

Vellum Strip Activation

Heyya guys! In this tutorial, I wanna show you a beginner-friendly way of making this vellum activation. We used to make strips using polyslice, but I wanted to focus more on attributes this time so we will create these cubes from slices, do a little UV trick to make sure our texture is not repeating and then do some vex to assign a frame for each slice and use that as an attribute of releasing for each of the slices. Enjoy!

RBD Mix Multiply

Heyya guys! In this tutorial we explore alternative way of multiplying RBDs with a few additions that I haven't covered previously. So, today we are building this setup of falling lego bricks, where at each iteration we randomly pick a type to add and we end up with a whole pile of these colorful bricks :)Enjoy!

Grain Swirls (The Easy Way) :)

Heyya guys! This month was packed with various grain and particle sims and I wanna top it of with this nice trick I discovered recently. So, remember we did a pop divergence flow recently? And we also had mirroring velocity fields last year? So in this tutorial I wanted to share a very beginner friendly foundation for all these "symmetric" grain swirls, so no velocity fields, no divergence, just a few simple, yet effective tricks to make ...

Heyya guys!In this beginner-friendly tutorial, we are exploring grain attraction forces, and I mean grain-to-grain attraction :) We will explore how different values of the attractionweight parameter give us quite a different look for a volume of grains and tweak them to get this nice scoopable thing.Enjoy!

Divergence Flow

Heyya guys!In this tutorial I wanna show you quite an interesting way to drive particle flow – not by using curl noise or wind, but use instances of divergence fields that will randomly suck the pyro smoke and provide nice velocity field for our particles. Also, we will do some particle scaling so we have one smooth and sloooooow flow :)This one is inspired by an amazing artist and x-particles genius – Maurice Fransen aka StracknlCheck him ou...
