Chapter 43: Aftermath of the Immortal Herbs
🕑 Added 2024-10-05 18:13:52 +0000 UTCAfter the four returned to the Breaking Clan, they each began to focus on their own matters.
Yang Zhentian had been absent for over a month, and as the young clan leader, there were many tasks awaiting his attention. Yang Wudi and Yang Wushuang needed to process the medicinal herbs they had harvested and decide how to handle the Ninth Grade Purple Ganoderma they had on hand.
As for Niu Jinfeng, upon returning home, the first thing she did was hold her youngest daughter, clearly doting on her. She then quietly took Yang Podi into a secret chamber. "Podi, the medicinal garden your father and I found has been dealt with. I've hidden the entire garden, so no one else should be able to find it. Here's the key for entry, and you must guard it carefully. I only made three keys: one for your father, one for your two grandfathers, and this one for you."
"If you want to enter, you'll need to activate a special mechanism. I'll teach you how to open it and the precautions to take."
Niu Jinfeng then explained to Yang Podi in detail the location of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and how it had been concealed, along with the method to unlock the mechanism.
"Son, I heard that you're the one who found the garden this time, and you specifically got a rare Earth Dragon Golden Melon for me, and a Ten Thousand-Year Earth Spirit Ganoderma for your grandfather. You're truly my child. All the times I've pampered you weren't in vain. I'm now a 73rd-level Soul Saint. Next time we go hunting for soul rings, I'll take you along."
"Mom, these are just small matters. You need to keep the location of the garden a secret as well."
"Silly child, do you really need to remind me? I've seen much more of the world than you."
After exchanging a few more words, the two left the secret chamber.
In the following days, Yang Podi felt uneasy about the immortal herbs in his possession. He kept them in a soul tool, but if someone took it all at once, that would be disastrous.
So, he quietly found another smaller soul tool that could be worn on his body, where he stored his most valuable immortal herbs. The herbs inside his wristband soul tool were now mostly common medicinal herbs, with a few ten-thousand-year-old supplements like Ten Thousand-Year Dodder, Ten Thousand-Year White Peony, Snow Silkworm, and Vermilion Lotus.
One afternoon after lunch, Yang Podi went to his grandfather's alchemy room to continue learning about medicinal herbs. He thought his father and two grandfathers would be busy with their own affairs, so he planned to leave quietly. However, he was called back.
Yang Zhentian spoke up: "Son, last time we visited the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, I was captivated by the Aromatic Silk Beauty Immortal Herb It seems you dug up a lot of good stuff. Why don't you show some of it to your two grandfathers?"
Upon hearing this, Yang Podi couldn't help but internally grumble: Did my dad really just expose the fact that I have immortal herbs? If I show them, knowing my grandfathers, there's no way I'll get them back. Fortunately, I came prepared.
"Dad, didn't I already bring out everything I found? All I have left are some common medicinal herbs."
The three men frowned upon hearing this, especially Yang Zhentian, who knew exactly what treasures his son had. Now his son was outright denying it—how was he supposed to explain this to his father?
Yang Wudi also felt a bit impatient. "Podi, just bring them out. I only want to take a look."
Yang Podi pondered for a moment. It seemed his father hadn't spilled the specifics. His eyes flashed with an idea. "Grandpa, here's my soul tool. You can take a look. All the good stuff I gave to my dad already. I remember he said I was too weak and wanted to hold onto them for me."
As he spoke, Yang Podi produced several jade boxes from his soul tool. They contained rare herbs but not a single immortal herb.
However, the rare herbs he did bring out included ten-thousand-year-old Dodder and White Peony, along with a massive Snow Silkworm and Vermilion Lotus, which were much larger than their market counterparts, almost as if they were about to gain sentience.
Yang Podi even handed over his wristband soul tool, making it look like he was completely open to being searched.
Yang Wudi and Yang Wushuang examined the soul tool carefully and found nothing extra. Then they both turned to look at Yang Zhentian.
Yang Zhentian's face darkened. He had tried to shift the responsibility to his son, but his son had deftly thrown it right back at him.
Yang Wudi then glared at his son. "Zhentian, you ungrateful child, I only wanted to take a look. You're really not going to share?"
Yang Zhentian silently cursed his son a thousand times in his heart: This brat is way too cunning.
Seeing his father and uncle looking like they were ready to act, and his son completely unbothered, Yang Zhentian had no choice but to pull out a few jade boxes from his soul tool. Inside were some of the immortal herbs he had kept for himself: Yearning Heartbroken Red, Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid, and Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower. He had no intention of showing the rest.
Yang Wudi and Yang Wushuang snatched the jade boxes, examining the herbs inside.
"This Yearning Heartbroken Red truly deserves to be called the supreme treasure among immortal herbs, the king of flowers—so noble and elegant. It's said to even have the power to bring people back from the dead."
"The Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid is gentle and easy to absorb, perfect for strengthening the body and expelling impurities. It's a top-tier orchid."
"This Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower, a fire-attribute immortal herb, is immensely nourishing for pure Yang energy and can greatly boost soul power. It's an unmatched treasure for fire-attribute soul masters."
The two elders praised the three immortal herbs endlessly. Though they weren't as ecstatic as they had been when they saw the Aromatic Silk Beauty Immortal Herb, their expressions still showed admiration. Their faces had a look of intense longing, similar to how Chrysanthemum Douluo had reacted in the original story.
Holding the three immortal herbs, Yang Wudi and Yang Wushuang seemed unwilling to let them go.
"Zhentian, do you have any more immortal herbs? Bring them out and let us see. Don't worry, we won't take them."
Internally, Yang Zhentian couldn't help but grumble again: Trust you? Yeah, right! These three are already as good as gone; how could I possibly show you the rest?
"Father, Second Uncle, we really only obtained these three immortal herbs. If you don't believe me, you can ask Podi."
Yang Zhentian then glanced at his son, his eyes carrying a subtle warning.
Yang Podi quickly chimed in, "Grandpa, Second Grandpa, immortal herbs are incredibly rare. Each one is worth a fortune, so it's no surprise we only found a few. Even the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well can only produce so much."
After thinking for a moment, Yang Wudi and Yang Wushuang nodded. "True, immortal herbs are hard to come by. These three alone are quite remarkable. Zhentian, we'll study these herbs for a while and return them to you after we're done."
Before Yang Zhentian could react, the two elders had already pocketed the three immortal herbs.
Seeing this, Yang Podi quickly retrieved his own soul tool and the herbs he had brought, prompting laughter from his grandfathers.
As for his father, Yang Zhentian's face was now as dark as the bottom of a pot. The disparity in treatment was obvious: his grandfathers took nothing from the grandson, but everything from the father.
As the two left the alchemy room, Yang Zhentian's face showed displeasure. "Podi, I've been set up by you this time. How are you going to make it up to me? Give me one of the immortal herbs you've hidden."
But Yang Podi was having none of it. "Dad, what are you talking about? Grandpa and Second Grandpa are just borrowing them for research. They'll return them soon enough, so don't worry."
With that, Yang Podi left without looking back.
